IE-Modus in Edge.

Do you occasionally work in the classic pages of XS and use IE Mode to do so? Then this article is for you.

What is IE Mode

IE Mode in Edge allows you to use web pages that require Internet Explorer. This is useful for the classic administration pages in XpertSuite. Without this mode, some of these pages would not work.

Current situation

Many functional administrators work entirely in IE mode of Edge. This is set as such by the IT department or is easier because you only have to log in once.

New situation

To phase out classic management faster and to make working with Edge easier, we have come up with a solution. This will enable IE mode automatically on the pages where it is needed, without additional actions or re-logging in. The user then no longer needs to switch the browser to IE mode.

IE support Xpert Suite

Making this change has many advantages. XpertSuite works faster, looks nicer. Otherside at Work can start using the latest technologies in many places. By setting this up quickly, you not only improve the experience for everyone, but also make the software ready for the future.

How do you set this up? The Cookie Sharing configuration

We provide a Cookie Share XML file. The IT department can use this file in a Group Policy. This will make IE mode work automatically for the appropriate pages, while the rest of the software will just keep running in Edge.

Have your IT Department follow the following steps to set up Cookie Sharing:

For Microsoft 365 administrators with no active IE Mode policy

  1. Sign-in to https://intune.microsoft.com/
  2. Go to Devices > Windows > Configuration
  3. Create a new policy
  4. Select as platform 'Windows 10 and later' and profile type 'Settings catalog'
  5. Enter a name for the policy relevant to IE Mode, example IE Mode for Xpert Suite
  6. Click add settings and search for policy 'Configure the Enterprise Mode Site List'
  7. Click in the results on 'Microsoft Edge' and check in the list of policy 'Configure the Enterprise Mode Site List'
  8. In the policy overview Enable 'Configure the Enterprise Mode Site List' and enter behind 'Configure the Enterprise Mode Site List (Device)' the value 'https://static.xpertsuite.nl/CookieShare.xml
  9. Click Next
  10. If you are using scope tags apply them and click next.
  11. Assign the policy to the user group that will use IE Mode for Xpert Suite under included groups
  12. Click next and verify the policy settings before creating the policy

For organizations with an active IE Mode policy

  1. Open our XML-file from 'https://static.xpertsuite.nl/CookieShare.xml
  2. Copy the contents of the XML-file and add them to your custom IE Mode XML file
  3. Upload the newly created version of your XML-file
  4. Adjust the settings in Microsoft Intune accordingly if necessary, example version number referencing in the file name

Ps. It can take up to 24 hours until the customization is live. To check if the change was configured correctly type

'edge://compat/enterprise' in Edge's address bar. This should be the result:

To conclude

As of the 9.4 release (27 March 2025), we no longer support Internet Explorer for future software updates. This may cause some pages to no longer work (correctly) in IE Mode. Only the remaining Classic components remain compatible with IE.

With the implementation of the above change, the management of XS will continue to work properly and automatically switch between IE mode and Edge when necessary, without having to log in again.

Arrange with your internal IT department as soon as possible to set this up for your organisation!
